BOOSTFUNDZ
UX/UI Platform Design for a Next-Gen Fundraising Solution

CASE STUDY
OVERVIEW
BoostFundz set out to reinvent high school fundraising; taking traditional coupon books into the digital age. Backed by Varsity Group and developed under the creative leadership of TouchPros, the platform needed more than a website; it needed an intuitive, frictionless, mobile-first experience that could connect fundraisers, businesses, and donors with minimal barriers.
As Creative Director, I was tasked with bringing the vision to life;across strategy, design, user experience, feature planning, and launch support.

THE CHALLENGE
The client’s early vision centered around building an iOS-only app; a risky move in a diverse-device world. BoostFundz needed to attract busy parents, grandparents, coaches, and donors (many of whom were not tech-savvy) and make the fundraising experience seamless.
Mid-development, we discovered a major obstacle:
-
Apple’s 30% App Store transaction fee posed serious revenue threats.
-
Client had limited research and unclear operational structure.
To keep the project viable, we pivoted fast; transforming the app into a web-first platform that could be accessed from any device without app store cuts, while maintaining an "app-like" experience.

THE STRATEGY
We began by auditing the fundraising space; mapping out competitors, UX pitfalls, and user expectations.
From there, we developed a full user journey framework:
-
Fundraiser setup → Coupon creation → Donation flow → Fundraiser leaderboard
-
3 distinct fundraising models: Fundraiser Campaign, 24-Hour Blitz, and Coupon Book Campaigns
-
Mobile-first wireframes (XD) for intuitive navigation and minimal friction
We prioritized:
-
Clear CTAs and microcopy
-
Simplified donor flows for quick, emotional conversions
-
Admin dashboards for organizers, rep managers, vendors, and donors
-
Flexible architecture to allow expansion into new fundraising models over time
After pivoting to a web-first build, I translated the UX/UI into a Wix-powered marketing site and WordPress-backed app interface for easy mobile deployment

THE IDENTITY
While the BoostFundz logo and core brand colors were inherited from the client, the full visual and UX language was developed under my direction:
-
Typography system for mobile readability
-
Iconography sets for fundraising types and coupon categories
-
Clean, high-contrast layouts for accessibility
-
Rep kits (social graphics, banners, favicons) to support fundraisers’ promotion efforts
-
Seamless branding from marketing site to donation platform to admin dashboards
Tone: Approachable, energetic, trustworthy; with a sports and school community feel.

ROLLOUT & RESULTS
BoostFundz soft-launched through web-first access with Android app availability and an iOS version in final stages of approval at project handoff.
The initial launch successfully supported local fundraisers and integrated digital coupon functionality across multiple fundraising models.
While post-launch performance metrics were out of scope following my handoff, the platform architecture set the foundation for scalable growth and rapid updates.
REFLECTION
BoostFundz was a defining project in my evolution as a Creative Director:
Leading UX strategy, client education, cross-platform adaptation, and full lifecycle delivery across a 16-month engagement taught me firsthand that creative leadership isn't just about building beautiful interfaces; it’s about navigating complexity, advocating for users, and steering projects through changing tides.
Sometimes the best designs are born from the unexpected pivots.
